If studying in Italy feels expensive, there is one scholarship you should know about before making your final plans. The DSU scholarship at the University of Pisa can help eligible students with university fees, food, accommodation and other study-related costs.

For students enrolled in, or planning to enrol in, bachelor’s, master’s and single-cycle master’s programmes:

For PhD and specialisation students:

For the main application group, a valid Dichiarazione Sostitutiva Unica (DSU) for study-support purposes must have been completed by 7 September 2026.

For first-year bachelor’s and single-cycle master’s students, DSU also lists 4 November 2026 as an important intermediate date for the scholarship ranking.

These dates are useful for planning, but your personal student area remains the place to check your own status.

When Will the Scholarship Money Be Paid?

The payment schedule depends on your year of study and when you become a scholarship winner.

For first-year bachelor’s and single-cycle master’s students who are already winners by 4 November 2026, DSU plans to pay:

• 20% on 10 November 2026
• A further 30% by 31 December 2026
• The remaining payment after the required merit condition is met.

For students who become winners after 4 November, the first 50% is scheduled by 31 December 2026, with the later payment linked to the required academic result.

For first-year master’s students, the first payment is scheduled by 31 December 2026. The second payment depends on meeting the required merit condition.

Students in later years have a simpler schedule: the first instalment is due by 31 December 2026 and the second by 30 June 2027.

The agency checks the required academic credits directly from the student’s university records.

How Do You Receive the Money?

The scholarship payments are made by bank transfer.

DSU says the account or prepaid card must have an Italian or SEPA IBAN and must be in the name of the student receiving the award.

The University states that students who are not considered eligible in the scholarship rankings must pay the required tuition contributions by the applicable deadline. For the 2026/2027 renewal information, the University gives 1 March 2027 as the payment deadline for students who are not eligible in the scholarship rankings.

So keep some financial backup if possible.

A Note About Tuition Fees

The DSU award is not the only way international students can reduce their University of Pisa costs.

The university also has separate tuition-fee reduction rules based on financial circumstances. For 2026/2027, the University lists a maximum all-inclusive tuition amount of €2,900 for regular students, while some students can qualify for reductions or exemptions.

This is separate from the DSU application.
